Sea cucumbers are considered nutritious in China and often used in soups. But China Central Television (CCTV) on Tuesday exposed the overuse of drugs in farmed sea cucumber(海参)in northeast Chinas coastal Liaoning province, which has tainted the nearby seawater and killed many sea creatures, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

Sea cucumber farms abound in Dalian city's Pikou town, located on the coast of the Bohai Sea. It's no secret that drugs are used to keep farmed sea cucumbers healthy, the investigative report said.

Small bottles labeled ceftriaxone sodium, a type of antibiotic, are frequently dumped outside a farm in the town. Reporters learned that mariculture famers use several types of antibiotics and Chinese herbal concoctions to protect sea cucumbers from illness. One farmer told reporters that they also spike the water with pesticide to kill organisms that might otherwise steal nutrients from sea cucumbers. And sodium hypochlorite and clinical dextrane, all disinfectants(杀菌剂), are used to clean up excrement from the sea creatures, he added.

Farmers dump this contaminated water into the sea every three or four days, undermining water quality near the fishing farms. In general, the farmland is cleaned up every four years. After removing all sea cucumbers and draining the water, local farmers cover the land with lime, 150 to 160 kg per mu (666 sq meters), and then wait for waves to take the lime and wastes into the sea.

Dozens of dead fish have been seen floating on the sea when these large-scale cleanings are carried out.In nearby areas, other sea creatures like squid and shrimp have been wiped out, a farmer said.

Getting kids to share their toys is a never-ending battle, and forcing them to do so never seems to help. New research suggests that allowing children to make a choice to sacrifice their own toys in order to share with someone else makes them share more in the future. The new findings are published in Psychological Science.

These experiments were conducted by psychological scientists, Nadia Chernyak and Tamar Kushnir of Cornell University. They found that sharing things with others when they are given a difficult choice leads children to think of themselves as people who like to share. It also makes them more likely to act in a pro-social (亲社会的)manner in the future.

Previous research has explained why rewarding children for sharing can backfire. Children come to think of themselves as people who don't like to share since they had to be rewarded for doing so. Because they don't view themselves as "sharers", they are less likely to share in the future.

Chernyak and Kushnir were interested in finding out whether freely chosen sacrifice might have the opposite effect on kids' willingness to share. To test this, the researchers introduced five-year-old children to Doggie, a sad puppet. Some of the children were given a difficult choice: Share a precious sticker(贴纸) with Doggie, or keep it for themselves. Other children were given an easy choice between sharing and putting the sticker away, while children in a third group were required by the researcher to share.

Later on, all the children were introduced to Ellie, another sad puppet. They were given the option of how many stickers to share (up to three). The kids who earlier made the difficult choice to help Doggie shared more stickers with Ellie. The children who were initially faced with an easy choice or who were required to give their sticker to Doggie, on the other hand, shared fewer stickers with Ellie. Therefore, children did not benefit from simply giving something up, but rather from willingly choosing to give something up of value.

“You might imagine that making difficult, costly choices is demanding for young children or even that once children share, they dont feel the need to do so again,Chernyak says. But this wasn't the case: once children made a difficult decision to give up something for someone else, they were more generous, not less, later on.Chernyak concludes.

57._______ helps children to share more in the future.

     ARewarding children for sharing

     BForcing children to share

CAllowing children to share what they dont need

DEncouraging children to share precious things willingly

Aits not their own choice   Bthey regret what they did

CEllie is not as sad as Doggie Dthey like to share with a real person

60.We can conclude from the passage that _______.

Aparents will never find a way to get children to share toys

Ba gift should be given to make up for children s sacrifice

Cmaking difficult choices may influence sharing behavior

Dchildren pretend to be generous when they are being observed

    Section C   (8%)

Directions:Read the passage carefully .Then choose the right answers.

When students and parents are asked to rate subjects according to their importance, the arts are unavoidably at the bottom of the list. Music is nice, people seem to say, but not important. Too often it is viewed as mere entertainment, but certainly not an education priority (优先).This view is shortsighted. ______61_______
Music tells us who we are. Because music is an expression of the beings who create it, it reflects their thinking and values, as well as the social environment it came from. Rock music represents a lifestyle just as surely as a Schubert song. The jazz influence is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions. Music expresses our character and values.____62_____

Music provides a kind of perception(感知)that cannot be acquired any other way. ____63____The arts explore the emotional meaning of the same phenomenon. We need every possible way to discover and respond to our world for one simple but powerful reason: No one way can get it all.
The arts are forms of thought as powerful in what they communicate as mathematical and scientific symbols. They are ways we human beings "talk" to each other. They are the language of civilization through which we express our fears, our curiosities, our hungers, our discoveries, and our hopes. The arts are ways we give form to our ideas and imagination so that they can be shared with others. When we do not give children access to an important way of expressing themselves such as music, we take away from them the meanings that music expresses.
          ____64____

  1. It gives us identity as a society.
B.Science can explain how the sun rises and sets.

    C. They are ways we human beings talk to each other.

D.Science and technology do not tell us what it means to be human.

AB.In fact, music education is beneficial and important for all students.

AC.So music education is far more necessary than people seem to realize.

    Section D  (8%)

    Summary Writing

Directions:Read the passage carefully. Then write an English summary of about 60 words in your own words according to the passage given below.

Imagine this: you get up in the morning and put on a custom printed T-shirt. Then you eat some 3-D printed food and relax on your printed sofa. Perhaps you take a ride in a printed electric car to the hospital to get a printed tooth fitted.

Though some of these things may seem impossible, they’re closer to reality than you might think. The world of 3-D printing is coming to a store near you soon.

The idea of 3-D printing is to produce complicated shapes in a very personalized way. If you want to make a totally new object, you need to make a virtual design in a CADcomputer aided designfile first. Or you can use a 3-D scanner to make a digital copy of an object. Then, based on the design or copy, the 3-D printer makes paper-thin slices out of liquid, plastic, or metal and puts them together to create the object you want.

There are many areas in which 3-D printing can change our lives. One such area is health care. Researchers have developed simple 3-D printed organs, which can be used in life-saving operations. A 17-year-old boy in the US has also recently developed a brain-powered, 3-D printed replacement hand. From heart monitors to fake limbs(四肢), we can soon be living longer thanks to 3-D printed technology.

Another area that 3-D technology looks sure to change is food. Can you imagine being able to print your favorite dishes at home at the touch of a button? Even big companies are behind the trend. Hersheys, one of the largest chocolate makers in the world, recently announced that it would start producing chocolate with the help of 3-D printers. NASA, the US space agency, has reportedly spent $125,000 767,594 yuandeveloping a “3-D pizza printer”.

It is not yet clear how long it will take until 3-D printers are available to everyone. But one thing is for sure: the possibilities are endless.
