Driving a car is ore stressful than traveling by bus ,according to a new research. A study by Dr David Lewis will be used as a major part of the Greener Journeys campaign. The aim is to persuade motorists up and down the country to abandon their cars for one billion journeys in the next four years----in favor of traveling by bus.

Dr Lewis, from the University of Sussex, conducted an experiment in which the heart rate and EDR(皮肤电反应)of 30 volunteers were measured when taking identical or similar journeys by car as a driver and by bus as a passenger. The results indicated that stress was, on average, 33 percent lower when traveling by bus.

EDR measures persons skin to anxiety or stress. EDR can be a hidden stress. This type of stress can have long-term physical and emotional impacts. Taking a bus can produce long-term benefits.

Dr Lewis said there are three main factors that make driving a car stressful: heavy traffic causes the brain to work harder, traffic jams cause a build-up of anger and there is a sense of function that a person is wasting ones life because few things can be done at the same time as driving. The study show that driving in traffic jams now outweighs any previous benefits that driving in a private car once gave.

The Greener Journeys campaign will encourage people tp get out of their cars and go by bus where it is convenient and realistic to switch.

(   )60. What is the purpose of the Greener Journeys campaign?

The octopus reputation as a human--killer isnt simply an exaggeration--it is a total myth. The octopus can indeed be a deadly hunter, but only of its natural victims. Some shellfish(壳类动物) and an occasional sick or incautious(不谨慎的) fish have reason to be frightened of this multi -armed hunter, but a person is much too large to interest even the biggest octopus. Even the largest among octopus is much smaller than most people imagine. Far from being large enough to swallow a ship, as monster octopus in movies have been known to do, the largest octopus, found on the Pacific coast, weighs around 110 pounds and grows to no more than ten feet in width.

The hard, parrot-like beak of an octopus is not used for attacking deep-sea divers, but for cutting open shellfish. Indeed, the octopus possesses such a tiny throat that it cant swallow large pieces of meat. Instead, it feeds by pouring digestive juices into its victims, and then sucking up the soupy remains. A shellfish that finds itself in the grasp of an octopus has only a short time to live. But human beings are perfectly safe. Still, people rarely care to go close enough to these careful creatures to get a good look at them.

(   )64. This passage is mainly about______.

A. the horrors of the octopus.

B. the largest octopus in the world.

C. octopus and their behavior.

D. the octopus deadly hunting method.

(   )65. Its implied but not stated in the passage that______.

C. the octopus is afraid of human beings.

D. the octopus is a very cruel sea animal.

    Section D

Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 90 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Cultural differences in body language may show up in many ways, such as the amount of physical touch, the distance between people when they are having a conservation and so on. Personal space and comfort distances are very personal, but they are also influenced by culture. In South America, personal space and comfort distances are quite small. People stand very close to each other to talk, even when they dont know each other very well. However, in the United States personal space becomes much larger. People are not comfortable when others stand close to them.

Anybody who travels to different countries must have a good understanding of body language. For instance, in the Middle East a man has much more leeway(活动余地) in terms of where and how he walks than a female does.

If your are planning a vacation to other counties, you should always pay attention to the body language. For instance, if you get lost in Japan, youre much more likely to get help from a local citizen if you know how to show respectful body language and follow local customs of bowing and avoiding touch.

The bottom line when it comes to cultural differences is that knowledge is the key. If you go to a different culture, it only makes senses to learn about their expectations. It shows respect for the culture and respect for the people. When you understand and apply proper body language, your entire experience is likely to be more pleasant and successful.
