Wild camping is a wonderful way to experience the natural world and, at its best, it makes little environmental influence. But with 30 numbers of people wanting to escape into the wilderness, it is becoming more and more important to camp unobtrusively(不引人注目地)and leave no mark.
Wild camping is not permitted in many places, 31 in crowded lowland Britain. Wherever you are, find out about organizations 32 for managing wild spaces, and 33 them to find out their policy on camping and shelter building. For example, it is fine to camp wild in remote parts of Scotland, but in England you must ask the landowner’s 34 , except in national parks.
Camping is about having relaxation, sleeping outdoors, 35 bad weather, and making food without modern conveniences. A busy, fully-equipped campsite seems to go against this, so 36 out smaller, more remote places with easy 37 to open spaces and perhaps beaches. Better still, find a campsite with no road access: walking makes a real adventure.
Finding the right spot to camp is the first step to guarantee a good night’s sleep. Choose a campsite with privacy and minimum 38 on others and the environment. Try to use an area where people have 39 camped before rather than creating a new spot. Always consider what influence you might have on the natural world. Avoid damaging plants. A good campsite is found, not made—changing it should be unnecessary.

Section B
Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
When a Japanese friend of mine first visited Britain and first saw a British map of the world, he was very surprised by what he found. At first, the picture seemed familiar: in the middle of the map, there were two or three small but long red islands lying between an ocean and a continent. But something was wrong: land mass and ocean had changed places. It wasn’t Japan he was looking at, it was the British Isles(英伦列岛). Japan was out on the edge(边缘)somewhere.
Until that moment all the maps he had known had set Japan in middle of the picture and had colored it red; yet when he got to Britain, he found that the country in the middle of the map was Britain and it was also painted red. What my friend had found was that his country was no longer in its familiar place and he no longer knew where he was.
Our sense of ourselves and our place in the world may not, as my friend’s experience suggests, come from anything real or actual, for no country is in the middle of the earth, except as a picture in the mind. A map is only a model in which we may set ourselves. It just helps to feel that we know where we are.

(B)
Half –Truths
Be care of those who use the truth to deceive(欺骗). When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included, he can create a false impression.
For example, someone might say, ‘I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery(彩票). It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!’
This guy’s a winner, right? Maybe, maybe not. We then discover that he bought two hundred tickets, and only one was a winner. He’s really a big loser!
He didn’t say anything that was false, but he purposely omitted important information. That’s called a half-truth. Half-truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest.
Dishonest candidates(候选人)in political campaigns often use this strategy. Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last term(任期), her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents runs an ad saying, ‘During Governor Smith’s term, the state lost one million jobs!’ That’s true. However an honest statement would have been, ‘During Governor Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.’
Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths. It’s against the law to law to make false claims so they try to mislead you with the truth. An ad. might show off, ‘Nine out of ten doctors recommend Yucky Pills to cure nose problems.’ It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Corporation.
This kind of dishonesty happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well.
( ) 58. Which statement is TRUE according to the article?
A. Whenever telling the truth, people are really lying.
B. One can get rich in a flash by getting lottery tickets.
C. All governors help their states.
D. The truth can be used in dishonest ways.
( ) 59. The underlined word ‘omitted’ in the fourth paragraph probably means .
A. spent money B. left out C. told about D. exposed
( ) 60. The author clearly wants people to .
A. think carefully about what they read and hear
B. learn to tell half-truths
C. trust no one but the best friends
D. vote for female candidates
( ) 61. Another suitable title for this selection would be .
A. Telling the Truth B. Everyone Lies
C. Lying With the Truth D. Trust Nobody
(C)
One the first day of school, our professor challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around, when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a little old lady looking up at me with a smile that lit up her entire face. She said, ‘Hi, handsome! I’m Rose. I’m 87 years old. Can I give you a hug?’
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, ‘Of course! Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?’ I asked.
She jokingly replied, ‘I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have children, and then travel around.’
‘No seriously,’ I asked. I was curious why she took on this challenge at this age.
‘I always dreamed of having a college education, and now I’m getting one,’ she told me.
We became friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk for hours. Listening to this ‘time machine’ as she shared her years of wisdom and experience with me was so interesting.
Over the year, Rose became a campus icon(偶像)and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she enjoyed the attention from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester, we invited Rose to speak at a student gathering. I’ll never forget what she taught us. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, the whole room fell silent.
‘We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only a few secrets to staying young. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. There are many people walking around who are dead, and they don’t even know it,’ she said. ‘There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability,’ she added. ‘But growing up requires finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what they did, but rather for things they did not do.’
One week after graduating, Rose died peacefully in her sleep. She taught us by example that it’s never too tale to be all you can possibly be.
