Some people can stay up all night and still get work done the next day. I’m not one of them. After a night (19) enough sleep, I feel bad-tempered. I have trouble remembering things. And all I want to do is go to bed.
How do you feel (20) you’ve stayed up late to finish schoolwork? Or the day after an overnight party? Scientists now say that your answers to these questions may depend on your genes.
New research suggests that a gene called “period 3” (21) ( influence) how well you function without sleep. The “period 3” gene comes in two forms: short and long. Everyone has two copies of the gene. So, you may have two longs, two shorts, or one of each. Your particular combination depends on (22) your parents passed on to you.
Scientists from the University of Surrey in England studied 24 people who had either two short or two long copies of “period 3”.Study participants(23)
stay awake 40 hours straight. Then , they took tests(24)
measured how quickly they pushed a button when numbers flashed on screen and how well they could remember lists of numbers.
Results showed that the people with the short form of “period 3” performed much (25) (good) on these tests than the people with the long form did. In both groups, people performed worst in the early morning.
After the first round of experiments,participants(26) (allow) to sleep.
People in the group that performed well on the tests (those with the short form of “period 3”) took about 18 minutes to nod off(打盹). People with the long “period 3” gene, by contrast, (27) (fall) asleep in just 8 minutes. They also spent more time on deep sleep. That suggests that people with the long form of the gene need more and deeper sleep to keep their brains (28) (work) in top form.

Why? Your financial and personal desires or needs must be met in 35 , or you will create a situation known as overindulgence( 过分放纵) which will lead to unhealthy result. For example, overspending leads to poor credit history and overeating 36 overweight. Therefore, an early effective way to budget can lead to an extremely productive and satisfying life.
When? You may consider budgeting when there are too many 37 but a limited supply of money or time to obtain them. As is often the case, you want to go to the movies, but your money is limited, or you have to spend your time doing your schoolwork.
Learning to budget teaches you not only self-control, but also how to

A primary school has put up signs to warn phone-obsessed parents to greet their children with a smile at the end of the day rather than starting at their screens.
It has become a common sight at the school gates to see children running up to their parents, only to find them engrossed in composing a text message, a phone call, or scrolling(滚动屏幕) through Facebook.
Now the headmistress at St Joseph’s RC Primary School, in Middlesbrough,
has erected the signs at all three entrances to the school in an attempted crack down.
The signs say: “Greet your CHILD with a SMILE, NOT A MOBILE” and feature a figure with mobile to their ear, crossed out in a red circle.
Liz King, headmistress at St Joseph’s, said: “We are trying to develop our speaking and listening in school and we thought it was a really simple way to get the message across.
“ It wasn’t an issue among our parents, it just emphasizes that speaking and listening helps the children to have discussions.”
The move( 行动) had mixed review, with some parents welcoming the signs, saying "it's about time" while others felt it was "a bit daft".
Danielle Parker, a parent, said: “I think they need to be up because everyone picks their kids up on their phones. I’d like to think they’d make a difference.”
Another parent Danielle Savage said: “I agree with it, it’s a good thing. But it only works if you’re having discussions all the time at home, not just when you’re collecting your child.”
However, some people when questioned were more hesitant about the signs, with one parent, whose child is in the foundation stage, calling the move “a bit daft”.
Last year, research warned that parents’ immersion in smartphones has left some neglected children starting primary school unable to hold conversations.
Almost a third of children starting school are not ready for the classroom, with many lacking social skills, having speech problems or not toilet trained, the survey of senior primary school staff found.

64. Why did the primary school put up the signs?
A. To prevent parents from being crazy about smartphones.
B. To help children develop social skills before entering school.
C. To remind parents to spend more time communicating with their kids.
D. To encourage parents to have discussion with their children all the time at home.
